a set of rules that demonstrates the way in which electrons must fill sEhells.

Explain how electrons in the shells of an atom are arranged
Electrons are added one at a time to 'build up' the atom. The lowest available energy level is filled first (1s) and each energy level must be filled before the next higher energy starts to fill.

What MUST you remember when filling orbitals within sub-shells?
When a sub-shell is built up with electrons, each orbital is SINGLY filled BEFORE pairing starts. An orbital can hold a maximum of 2 electrons with opposite spins.
