What does a union mean?

Means event 'A' OR 'B' OR both.

This term refers to there being a condition on the probability that we're trying to find.

P(A -union- B)/ P(A)

What is an independent probability?

2 events are independent if one does not affect the other. Example: To win £300 you must roll a 1 on the roulette wheel and draw an ace from a pack of cards. Rolling any other number apart from 1 does not affect the probability of drawing an ace.

What is a mutually exclusive probability?

2 events cannot happen at the same time. Example: drawing both a club and a diamond from a pack of cards with one try (card).

How do you determine if two events are independent?

P(A -intersect- B) = P(A) X P(B).

How do we work out probability using tree diagrams?

We times together the branches and if we have more than 1 possible route then we add the probabilities from each route together.

Why do we use a Stem and Leaf diagram?

To organise data into groups without losing any detail. Numbers closest to the stem are smaller.
