What are the similarities/differences between
hoarding disorder & OCD?
Fear of losing important things, urge to acquire & save. OCD is only prevalent in <5% of individuals, thoughts aren't intrusive/distressing, anxiety at discarding which is rare in obsessions.

Describe body dysmorphic disorder
Percieve self as ugly, avoid reflection, wear heavy makeup, highly distressing, 1/4 have surgery, 40% housebound, comorbidity: depression, AD, OCD/

What is the aetiology of OCD?
Yedasentience (knowing you have done enough) deficit - Woody & Szechtman 2000. Hoarding disorder is a result of poor self-monitoring/error processing (Hough et al 2016), cognitive behavioural model-unusual beliefs about possessions, avoidance.

What are the treatments for OCD?
Exposure & response prevention-success rate is often higher than medication , use of CBT, SSRIs 50-75% success, combination with CBT is effective.

Describe some trauma-related disorders
PTSD, Acute stress disorder - have to have symptoms from the 4 categories intrusive, increased arousal, changes in mood, have to persisit for >1 month, dysregulated risk hormone, type of trauma(severity/nature), greater amygdala activation, smaller volume

What coping mechanisms are there for trauma-related disorders?
Social support, flexibility in coping strategies, avoid thinking about trauma.

What treatment is there for this?
Success with SSRIs-reduce some symptoms but there is relapse, cognitive strategies (CBT-trauma focused) eg relaxation techniques, enhance self-belief in ability to cope. Early intervention for treating acute stress disorder decreases risk for PTSD.
