How do you calculate BMI?
BMI= mass in kg/ height in m2

What are LDL's and what do they do?
Saturated fats. Carry cholesterol from the liver to the tissues. Too much Sat fat increases cholesterol levels which increases LDL concentrations. Contributes to atheromas.

What are HDL's and what do they do?
Unsaturated fats. Carry cholesterol from the tissues to the liver. High levels of HDL's, are associated with low cholesterol levels. Reduce deposition in artery walls.

Effect of excess salt?
Hypertension- blood (diastolic) pressure is too high. Can damage inner lining of arteries.

Compare saturated and unsaturated fats
Saturated= animal fats e.g meat. More harmful. Unsaturated=- plant fats e.g olive oil. Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated are good.

What should cholesterol levels be?
Concentration should be below 5.2mmol dm-3 in the blood.
