Describe a Key motif and its relationship and action.
In Road to Sweetieland, the cupids show a mirroring relationship. They are facing eachother, hands patting their hearts while i attitue derriere. Slide away from eachother, pull and touch Clara's dress.

Describe the dynamics and space of this motif.
Jerky hands and sharp turns. Downstage centre, facing forwards slightly angled in towards eachother, at a medium level.

Describe another key motif, relationship and action.
By invitation only, contact relationship used. Knickerbocker Glory stands behind Clara, lifts her arms up, wraps his right leg around her waist. Walks forwards, moving her like a puppet with his hands on her hips.

Soft, fluid. Stands in close proximity, restrictcs her personal space, facing downstage.

Describe a Climax in the piece.
The Revolt Act 1. Nutcracker bursts out the wardrobe in Clara's dream. Music gradually bulds to create crescendo, pitch gets higher, contrasts to low pitch boom when NC bursts. (Continue to next card)

How is the climax effective?
A combinaton of action, music and dynamics creates supense and tension. Shows a difference between reality and her dream, the whoe scene is intense.

Describe a costume and how it's effective.
The Marshmallow girls wear identical pink, fluffy textured wigs that bounce up and down as they walk. Gives the impression of 'air heads' and 'ditzy'. Everything is pink with high heels to show feminism & girly, so identifies the character.

Describe another Costume and it's contribution.
The cupids wear pyjamas and large, oversized glasses. Shows it's a dream, the glasses look geeky and mock the way they used to look, so adds humour.

Describe set design and how it's effective.
Paper chains, a Christmas tree and party hats are props used in Preparationos for a visit. The props show it's Christmas time and therefore Winter, so helps create a season.

Colours in Act 1 are black, dark blue, grey and white e.g.iron beds with white sheets. Creates a monotone effect, shows its cold and uninviting, creates a dull and gloomy mood.

Describe lighting design and how it's effective
A spotlight is used in Preparations for a visit, shining downstage centre on the Matron. The rest of the stage is dim. Highlights her as important character and sets scene for orphanage.

Pink floodlights used with the Marshmallow Girls. This complements their pink outfits and marshmallow sweets on their costumes.

Describe a camera technique and how it's effective
Long shot used in Road to Sweetieland shows an empty space, signpost and Clara sitting infront of it. New location shown means no longer in orphanage, shows she's little and lost, moves story on so helps structure, decision making time.

Top shot used in Presents and party pieces, orphans in 2 circles, fritx and sugar centre being framed. Circular formation seen clearly and highlights Fritz and Sugar as important figures, the centre of attention.

Describe the accompaniment and how it's effective
Sound of chiming clock informs audience what time it is in the orphanage and adds tension to the piece.

Souns of oboe, triangle and violin provide a mysterious atmosphere to introduce Knickerbocker Glory. Melody is trance-like, as if he's trying to hypnotise Clara in By invition only.

Spotlight draws attention to Sugar in fear, use of sound effects of thunder and lightening strike outside window. Movements of NC slow and jolty, creepy and disturbing.
