Odin
"The all father"
- War God and Poetry God.
-Worshipped by those in search of prestige, honour and nobility.
-Ruler of the Aesir.
-Often the favourite God and helper of the outlaws.
-Sacrificed his own eye for wisdom.
-Only speaks in poems and the ability to compose poetry

The God of Thunder
-Was an archetype of a loyal and honourable warrior, the ideal to which the average human warrior aspired.
-Defender of the Aesir Gods and their fortress.
-Jormungand (the enormous sea serpent)= his enemy.
-Son of Odin, they had an uneasy relationship.

"The Wily Trickster"
-Shapeshifter.
-Portrayed as a scheming coward who cared only for shallow pleasures and self preservation.
-Worked with God's and Giants based on which course of action benefitted him most (In Ragnarok he fights with the Giants).

"Beloved"
-Odin wife.
-Highest ranking Aesir Goddess.
-Lack of evidence on her deeds, personality or other attributes, those specifics discussed are shared with Freya.
-Depicted as a Völva, a practitioner of the Norse form of magic (seiðr).

-Requires less sleep than a bird.
- Has keen eyesight so he can see for hundreds of miles.
- Has hearing so accurate he can hear grass grow.
-Sounds the Gjallahorn ("Resounding horn") when intruders approach.

Presides over Law and Justice
-One of the principle war Gods.
-Upholder of law and justice, he sacrificed his arm to uphold.
-Connected to the legal decisions and principles of justice surrounding war.

-Little known about her.
-Depicted as the owner and distributor of a fruit that imparts immortality, this is often considered to be an apple.

Bragi
Wise and learned bard of Valhalla
-A 9th century bard (Bragi Boddason).
-Upon his death Odin appointed him the court poet of Valhalla.
-Said to be the husband of Idun.

Vili and Ve
-Odin's brothers.
-Vili= "Will".
-Ve= "Temple".
-Created the cosmos with Odin.

-Thor's wife.
-Sif= "Relation by marriage".
-Her marriage to Thor is seen as "Heirogamy" (meaning "divine marriage") as it was believed it maintained the cosmic order and brought fertility and prosperity to the earth.

-Famous for her fondness of love, fertility, beauty and fine material possessions.
-A Völva.
-Said to have introduced seiðr to the Gods and Humans.
-Presides over the afterlife realm of folkuang.

-It was believed that peoples well-being depended on his benevolence.
-Frequent recipient of sacrifices at various occasions, such as the blessing of a wedding or a celebration or a harvest.

-"As rich as Njord"= saying among the Norse people.

-Presented as being greedy, harsh and cruel.
