Frustration increased within Russia - many people supported political opposition groups.

Why did the Tsarina pose a problem?
She often encouraged the Tsar to stay at home, rather than attend public events or meetings with advisers. She was unpopular because she was German, a problem worsened by WWI, 1914.

How did the Russian Orthodox Church support Nicholas II?
The leadership of the Church supported the Tsarist government. They promoted in the countryside the message that the Tsar had been directly chosen by God to rule Russia.
