What did Hitler reduce unemployment in Germany to?
HItler reduced unemployment from 6 million in 1933 to 100,000 in 1940

What ways did Hitler reduce unemployment?
He stopped reparations (money spent on investment in economy), he introduced government spending (autobahns), wages and prices were controlled (dropped so more jobs created), rearmament (weapon factories and army).

What is the Four-Year Plan?
Under the control of Goering, it was to get the German economy ready for war.

Some ideas involved in the Four Year Plan were autarky and rearmament. What do they mean?
Autarky = Economic self-sufficiency. Hitler wanted to stop Germany being dependant on imports (raw materials) Rearmament = building up the armed forces (went against Treaty) The Army grew from 100,000 in 1933 to 1.4 million in1939

Who were the German Labour Front?
DAF These replaced the trade unions. They had controlover wages and the workers hours. They were not allowed to strike, and had to have the government's permission to quit their jobs. 1938 - av' German earning 10x as 1932, forced to work hours needed

What did DAF's 'Strength Through Joy' organisation do? KdF
They were set up to provide workers with sports and leisure activities, cheap holidays and entertainment when they weren't working.

What was the volkswagen beetle for?
The 'Peoples' Car' was a scheme ran by the DAF for workers to save up and buy. This provided jobs however no one ever got one 1939-factories switched to military.

What was the 'Beauty of Labour?
Another branch of DAF, the SdA improved living and working conditions in the workplace.

What was 'Blood & Soil' and 'National Community'?
Blood & Soil = idea peasants were the basis of the German's master-race. National Community = wanted to aryan race to believe all part of one big community

How did Hitler create jobs?
He sacked women and jews, rearmament created jobs in factories, he introduced conscription in 1935 which cut 1 million from unemplyment figure, and created THE NATIONAL LABOUR SERVICE (RAD) all men 18-25 had to do 6 months work (autobahns, schools)

Jewish teachers and civil servants were sacked, banned from public places (parks/cafes) and Hitler declared a one day boycott on Jewish businesses

not allowed to marry non-Jews, had to wear 'Star of David' children expelled from non-jewish schools, banned from being german civilians

The Night of Broken Glass; 91 jews killed, 20,000 sent to concentration camps, 200 synagogues burned, Jews were charged 1 billion marks for the damage.

What were the Guettos?
Adolf Eichmann was incharge of the Jewish resettlement. He rounded them up from their occupied countries, and moved them to guettos - with big walls to seperate them from the cities.

What were the conditions of the Guettos? 1940
they had 300 calories a day, they were VERY CRAMPED - 7 or 8 to a room. The largest was in Warsaw

Their life expectancu was 3 months (disease, exhaustion, starvation), the weak - children, pregnant, old and disabled - were deloused, stripped and gased with pesticide in shower rooms.
