It is composed of 20-25 senior politicians, all appointed directly by the prime minister.

Members must be from the House of Commons or House of Lords. The prime minister appoints life peers to sit in the House of Lords if they aren’t an MP or Peer already and he wants them in the cabinet.

If it is a majority government the members of the cabinet are all from the governing party. If a coalition can be from either party.
2010 both the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats made up the cabinet.

It meets once a week but if there is a crisis or emergency it will meet more often.
When there were floods in 2014 David Cameron held crisis cabinet meetings.

The prime minister chairs the meeting alongside the cabinet secretary. The prime minister notes what was decided in the minutes.
The 2015 Cabinet secretary is George Osborne.

Cabinet committees are created to deal with specific areas of government policy. Junior members can be a part of these.
