Repetition
Melodies, rhythms or phrases that reoccur at different times

Change of different musical elements (EG: Pitch, Dynamics, Tonality...)

Anacrusis
A note or sequence of notes which precedes the first downbeat in a bar

Imitation
When one voice or instrument part copies another

Sequence
Repetition of a melodic or harmonic phrase in the same part, but at a higher or lower pitch

Ostinato
A repeated melodic, rhythmic or harmonic pattern in the music

Syncopation
Notes accented off the beat, the weak part of the beat is often emphasized.

Dotted Rhythms
A rhythm in which the beat is unequally subdivided into a long dotted note and a short note

Drone
A note or chord is continuously sounded throughout most or all of a piece

Pedal
A single note that is held or repeated (usually in the bass part)

Canon
Two or more parts sing or play the same music starting at different times

Conjunct
Melodies created by moving step-by-step

Disjunct
The opposite of Conjunct: Where melodies are created by leaps

Broken Chord
Where the notes of a chord are played individually, one after another, rather than all at once

Alberti Bass
An arpeggiated accompaniment, where the notes of the chord are presented in the order: lowest, highest, middle, highest
