Clues

  • A chord of three notes. (5)
  • Sometimes the final cadence of a piece in a minor key ends with a major chord instead of the expected minor. (15)
  • The chord built on the first note of the scale, I. (5)
  • This cadence is a surprise, you think it will be perfect. (11)
  • This chord is known as the fifth degree of the scale, V. (8)
  • This chord is known as the fourth degree of the scale, IV. (11)
  • This harmony uses notes from outside the key to give the chords more 'colour'. (9)
  • Used in Baroque music where a bass part is repeated throughout the piece. Can last many bars before it is repeated. (10)
  • When a piece of music changes to a closely related key. For the tonic, this would be the dominant, subdominant or the relative major or minor. (10)
