How does the alap start?

Then, the bansuri introduces the notes of the rag. The Erraj then takes over. The tempo is slow, and there is no regular beat. The 2 instruments alternate improvised phrases.

Slow, in Rupak Tal, and begins with Bansuri solo. Tabla enters. Bansuri plays a composed Gat, Bansuri and Tabla improvise around Gat and Tal, section ends with a tihai.

Fast in ektal, and begins with Tabla solo. Improvisation becomes more elaborate. Bansuri plays tans, ends with a tihai.
