What were the controls?
- All participants practiced shadowing beforehand, - All recordings were done by the same person speaking in the same way and at the same speed, - All set the volume in each headphone so they were the same.

What happened in experiment 1?
Shadowing prose and a list of words in the other ear. Tested with a word recognition test that had words from the prose, the list and unknown words)

What happened in experiment 2?
Shadowing fictional passage in the other ear there were instructions that half of the time were pre-fixed by the participants name. Responses recorded and analysed to see when they heard the instructions.

What happened in experiment 3?
Shadowed prose and in the other ear a list of numbers. They were told they would be tested on the numbers afterwards.
