What is the structure of DNA?
DNA molecules have two strands coiled into a double helix shape, which has cross links made of chemicals called bases. Each base cross links with a complementary base: A bonds with T and C bonds with G.

What occurs during protein synthesis?
The DNA code must be copied in the nucleus (transcription), as it cannot leave; the copied code is mRNA. The mRNA is able to leave the nucleus to go to the ribosomes, where the code is used to put the amino acid together to form a protein.

What is mitochondia and why do some cells need more of it?
Mitochondira is in the cytoplasm and is where cell respiration takes place, supplying energy to the cell. Cells that have a high energy requirement, like sperm cells, muscle cells and liver cells, have more mitochondria to allow them to function.

Who discovered the structure of DNA?
Watson and Crick are the 2 scientists credited with discovering the DNA shape but they actually built on the work of previous scientists to build a model of the DNA. They needed to check their work with other scientists to validate their results.

How can DNA make proteins?
3 bases make a triplet that codes for a specific amino acid. The sequence and number of amino acids codes for a particular protein.
