Enzyme
A globular protein that increases the rate of a biochemical reaction, by lowering the activation energy threshold. IE: Biochemical catalyst, speeds up the reaction without being used.

The substances enzymes convert into products.

What is produced by the biochemical reaction which the enzyme catalyses.

Active Site
Region on the surface of the enzyme for the substrate to bind to.

Denature
when the shape of the active site changes.

Enzyme-Substrate specificity
The physical and chemical properties of the active site complement those of the substrates. They are chemically attracted t each other and fit together. Molecules other than the substrate do not fit or are not attracted so do not bind.

Optimum
The temperature or PH at which an enzyme works best. (Varies between enzymes)
