module 4: section 3- classification and evolution

?
what is in the taxonomic hierarchy?
kingdom, phylum,class, order,family,genus, species.
1 of 14
what are the 5 kingdoms?
prokaryotae (e.g. bacteria), protoctista (algae), fungi, plantae, animalia.
2 of 14
what is the first part of the binomial naming system?
the genus
3 of 14
what is the 2nd part?
the species.
4 of 14
what does phylogeny tell you about aniamls?
the evolutionary history of the organism.
5 of 14
what are the 4 types of evidence used to show how similar organisms are?
molecular eveidence (similarietes in DNA and protenis), embryological evidence (similarities in early stages of development), anatomical eveidence (similarities in the structure and fundtion of different body parts), behavioural evidence.
6 of 14
what are the 3 domains?
archaea, bacteria (both prokaryotae- unicellular organisms iwthout a nucleus) and eukarya
7 of 14
what are the 3 types of aaptions?
behaviural, physiological (inside an organism) and anatomical.
8 of 14
what do plancenta mammals give birth to?
a fully developed offspring.
9 of 14
what do marsupial mammals give birth to?
offspring in early development and so climb in to pouched and recieve milk while they develop.
10 of 14
what is convergent evolution?
when 2 species evolve similar characteristics independantly of one another (because adapted to similar environments)
11 of 14
what are the different types of eveidence used to support evolution?
fossil evidence (arranged in chronologial date order =see gradual changes), DNA evidence(evolution caused by gradual changes in the base squence), Molecularevidence (can compare sequence of amino acids, compare antibodies)
12 of 14
what are some of the implications that pesticide resistance has on humans?
crop infestations are harder to control, will need to make new pesticides which takes taime and money, a spread of disease carrying ests.
13 of 14
what are some of the implications that drug resistance has on humans?
infections harder to treat, new drugs need to be developed which costs money and time.
