Autotrophic
Organisms that make their own food from simple inorganic raw materials
1 of 7
Photoautotrophic
Organisms that use light as an energy source for making their own food and perform photosynthesis
2 of 7
Chemoautotrophic
Organisms that use the energy from chemical reactions in chemosynthesis to make their own food
3 of 7
Heterotrophic
Organisms that cannot produce their own food and so obtain complex organic molecules from other organisms
4 of 7
Saprotrophic
Organisms that feed on dead or decaying matter by secreting enzymes onto food material outside the body for extracellular digestion
5 of 7
Parasitic
Organisms that obtain nutrition from a host organism which normally causes harm to the host
6 of 7
Holozoic nutrition
The process of ingestion, digestion and egestion. Food is processed inside the body inside a specialised digestive system.
