Although the League was Woodrow Wilson's idea, Congress rejected the appeal to join as they had an isolation policy to stay out of European politics. As the USA was a major superpower the fact it wasn't involved was a big weakness.

As Italy was one of the Leaders of the League of Nations, the League tried to reason with him and asked him to leave Corfu, Greece. But he disobeyed.
