What was the name of the new model of the atom?
The nuclear model
1 of 5
Who suggested this?
Rutherford and Marsden
2 of 5
Describe the differences between the two suggested atom models
1. The nuclear model has a nucleus and the plum pudding model doesn't 2.The nuclear model shows the electrons in shells but the plum pudding does not 3.The nuclear model shows the atom is mostly empty space
3 of 5
What observation and conclusions did Rutherford and Marsden find?
Most of the alpha particles passed straight through the atom so most of the atom is empty space.
4 of 5
Describe their investigation and what they found out
They fired positively charged alpha particle at a very thin sheet of gold. 1 in 1000 particles defelcted and repelled. This showed thme that the nucleus of the atom was also positively charged.
