Mitosis

?
Why do body cells divide?
to replace worn out cells, to repair damaged tissues and to grow by producing more cells
1 of 5
How does DNA replicates?
The DNA molecule unzips forming two new strands. This exposes the DNA bases on each strand. The spare DNA bases will line up against each separated strand of DNA.
2 of 5
How does mitosis happen?
Chromosome makes a copy of itself. The duplicated chromosomes line up across the centre of the cell. They then split into two identical copies. The copy moves to opposite ends of the cell. The cell divides into two genetically identical cells.
3 of 5
The large multicellular organisms require specialised organ systems like:
the nervous and endocrine systems - communication between cells, circulatory system- supplying cells with nutrients, the respiratory and digestive systems- controlling exchanges
4 of 5
What is a diploid?
describes a cell that has a nucleus with two sets of chromosomes (body cell)
