Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase
1 of 8
What is cancer?
When cells constantly divide to make more and more cells, a tumour is formed. A tumour becomes cancerous when it begins invading the surrounding tissues.
2 of 8
What is Cytokinesis?
The division of the cytoplasm and the membrane into two equal parts
3 of 8
What are the 3 parts to interphase, and describe what occurs at each?
Growth Phase 1 - preparation for replication, Synthesis - replication occurs, Growth phase 2 - short gap before mitosis that breaks down spindle fibres
4 of 8
Describe what occurs during Prophase?
Chromosomes become visible, as the nuclear envelope breaks down
5 of 8
Describe what occurs during Metaphase?
Chromosomes line up on the equator, as spindle fibres attach to the centromeres
6 of 8
Describe what occurs during Anaphase?
Spindle fibres contract, as chromatids are pulled to opposite ends of the cell
7 of 8
Describe what occurs during Telophase?
The chromosomes recoil, before new nuclear envelopes form around them, and cytokinesis takes place
