What was the aim of Milgram's study?
Milgram wanted to see if people would obey orders when the consequences were severe. He decided to let people think that they were giving another person an electric shock and see how far they would go.

Volunteer sampling. Milgram advertised for participants and told them they would be taking part in an experiment based on human learning.

What was the task for the participant?
The participant had to read out word pairs and wait for the learner to give the correct answer. An incorrect response required a shock, with the voltage increasing every time.

What were the results?
26 of the 40 men who took part and the 26 out of 40 women, who were tested seperately, continued to the end. In the main study, which used male participants, 14 participants therefore stopped before 450 volts. 65% obeyed to 450 volts; 100% till 300.
