To test the effect of physical distance between experimenter and teacher

Procedure
After giving initial instructions to teacher face to face, experimenter leaves the room and gives telephone instructions instead.

22.5% of PP obeyed until the end up to 450v. Some pp even gave lower shocks and didn't increase the voltage.

Physical distance reduces the pressure and authority of experimenter so people felt less pressured to obey.
