Metals and their uses

?
Where do we find metals in nature?
Metals are found in Earth's crust. They are most likely combined with other chemical elements e.g. oxygen.

If there is enough metal in a rock to make it economic to extract it, what do we call the rock?
We call the rock a metal ore.
2 of 9
A metal cannot be extracted from its ore using carbon. Where is this metal in the reactivity series?
It is higher than carbon on the reactivity series.
3 of 9
List three solid raw materials for making iron.
Haematite, Coke and Limestone.
4 of 9
Why is Iron from a blast furnace very brittle?
It is about 96% iron and contains impurities like carbon.
5 of 9
What property of aluminium makes it useful for aircraft creation?
It has a very low density.
6 of 9
There is a long time delay between planting the crop and extracting the metal in phytomining. What might happen if the price of the metal falls before the crop can be harvested?
They will loose money.
7 of 9
Explain the benefits of recycling aluminium.
It saves electricity as you do not need to use electrolysis again.
8 of 9
What does Native Metal mean?
A metal that is so unreactive that it is found in the earth as a metal (element) itself.
