Where do metallic compounds occur in?
metallic bonds occur in metal elements such as iron or copper and in alloys such as stainless steel.
1 of 6
What type of structure do metals have and what does thia mean?
metals have a giant structure in which electrons on the outer shell are delocalised this produce a regular arrangement of positive ions held together by strong electrostatic attractions to the delocalised electrons.
2 of 6
What is a metallic bond?
a metallic bond is the attraction between the postive ions and the delocalised negatively charged electrons.
3 of 6
Properties of metal compounds.(1)
metallic bonds are strong, so metals can mantain a regular structure and usually have a high melting point and boiling point.
4 of 6
Properties of metal compounds.(2)
the delocalised electrons can move around freely and transfer energy, making them good electrical and thermal conductors.
5 of 6
Properties of metal compounds. (3)
the delocalised electrons, allows metal atoms to easily slide over each other making them ductile and malleable.
