Name and describe Mendel's First Law.
the principal of segregation: the two members of a gene pair segregate from each other during the formation of gametes. Half of the gametes carry one member of the pair, and the other half carry the other member of the pair.
1 of 6
Prior to mendel, people believed in a 'blending' hypothesis. What was the problem with this?
it would result in a uniform population with no variation.
2 of 6
Define Homozygote?
an individual that has 2 copies of the same allele
3 of 6
Define Heterozygote
an individual that has 2 different alleles.
4 of 6
Name and describe Mendel's second law.
the principle of independent assortment: the alleles of different genes segregate independently of each other.
5 of 6
What is the exception to Mendel's second law?
2 genes that are physically proximate on the same chromosome, they don't assort independently. The closer they are, the greater the violation of the law.
