Memory - A01 & A02 - Baddeley and Hitch (1974)

?
What did Baddeley and Hitch (1974) study?
The working memeory model (WMM)

What did Baddeley and Hitch (1974) do?
Described the WMM, they described the WMM because they said that the MSM was to simplified and felt that the STM was not just one store but a number of different stores - the WMM is based on STM only.

The components of the WMM - outline the Central executive.
(has very limited capacity) it retrieves information then sends it to the right component. Data is retrieved from the senses or the LTM
3 of 10
The components of the WMM - outline the phonological loop.
Relates to sound, we find it difficult to focus on two sounds at once because of its limited capacity, it deals with auditory information and preserves the order of the information.
4 of 10
The components of the WMM - outline the visuo-spatial sketchpad.
Used when you have to plan a spacial task e.g. walking through a crowd (spacial awareness)
5 of 10
The components of the WMM - outline the episodic buffer.
Added by Baddeley (1966) to the WMM because there was no extra storage for information that relates to both visual and acoustic information. The episodic buffer integrates information from all the components of the WMM and also the LTM

A strength to Baddeley and Hitch (1974) WWM
There are different components on STM. Hitch and Baddeley (1976) found that doing tow tasks that involve the same components causes diffifuclty.

What does Hitch and Baddeleys (1976) strength to Baddeley's and Hitch (1974) WWM suggest/show?
That there are infact seperate components of STM.

A limtation to Baddeley and Hitch (1974) WWM
The centeral executive is to vague. Damasio (1985) found that EVR who has their Cerebal tumour removed performed well on tests requreing reasoning. However, he had poor decision-making skills .
9 of 10
What does Damasio (1985) limitation to Baddeley and Hitch (1974) WWM suggest/show?
This suggest that EVR central executive wasn't wholly intact. Suggestin that thje central executvie it more complex than Baddeley's and Hitch (1974) describedd.
