What are the three memory stores?
short-term sensory stores, short-term memory and long term memory.

Define short-term memory.
What we are thinking about at any given moment in time. This is consious memory. It is created by our paying attention to an external stimulus, an internal thought, or both.

Relaxed state, create a mental picture, see through mind's eye and evaluate movements.

What are two uses of mental rehearsal?
Acquiring a skill and for practicing skills when injured.

What does chaining involve?
Breaking a complex action down to a series of simpler actions that may then be linked together to form a chain of actions that forms the whole complex action.

Describe the characteristics of short-term memory.
Information is stored for few seconds. Irrelevant information is forgotten, relevant information is focused on.

Describe the characteristics of long-term memory.
With practice, information is transferred to LTM. Can store information for an unlimited amount of time. Its a store of well-learned past experiences. Limitless capacity.

Retention and retrieval of information from LTM is influenced by what?
Rehearsal, meaningfulness, speed of learning, over learning (practice).

Define selective attention.
The process of picking out and focusing on those parts of the display that are relevant to our performance.
