Things that we have learnt that make it difficult to recall other information that we have learnt. Retroactive (new interferes with old) Proactive (old interferes with new)

Explanation of forgetting: Context?
Context such as setting or environment helps us remember information previously learnt in the same setting. When we must recall that information in a new setting it is harder to recall information and so we forget.

Milner et al - A patient suffering from epilepsy underwent an operation in two thirds of his hippocampus was removed. Since the operation he was unable to learn new information. This shows that the hippocampus is needed to record new information.

Leading questions, hints at a particular type of answer is required. Unfamiliar faces, people are better at recognising faces of people they are familiar with/recognise. Context, reinstating the context of an event will improve the accuracy of recall

if you have more than 1 subject to revise in one night, try to avoid studying two similar subjects. If you have to study similar subjects make sure you but s break inbetween learning.

to reduce forgetting you could make your learning space at home resemble the environment in which you will be tested. Eg work at your desk instead of your bed
