Meiosis

?
What is meosis?
cell division which happens in the gamates
1 of 12
what are haploid cells?
cells with half the normal number of chromosomes.
2 of 12
how many divisons does meiosis consist of?
two
3 of 12
what happens in meiosis 1?
the reduction division
4 of 12
what happens in prophase 1?
chromosomes condense. They arrange themselves into homologous pairs. Crossing over occours. the centrioles start to move to opp. ends of cells and there is the formation of spindle, Nuclear envelope breakdown/
5 of 12
what happens in metaphase 1?
homologous pairs line up in centre of cell and attach to spindle by centromeres.
6 of 12
what happens in anaphase 1?
spindles contract and homologous pairs sepeterate. One chromosome goes to each end of cell
7 of 12
what happens in telephase 1?
nuclear envelope forms around each group of chromosomes
8 of 12
what happens in cytokenisis?
cytoplasm divides and 2 haploid cells produced
9 of 12
What happens in meiosis 2?
2 daughter cells undergo prophase 2, anaphase 2, metsphase 2, telephase 2 and cytokensis.
10 of 12
what happens in anaphase 2?
pair of sister chromatids sepeatred and each cell gets one chromatid from a chromosomes.
11 of 12
what is produced at the end of meiosis 2?
4 gentically different haploid daughter cells
