The first person to think of a scientific explaination of disease with "The theory of the four Humours", made the Hippocratic Oath, urged doctors into diagnosing and recording data, and wrote "The Hippocratic collection of Books"

Galen developed on the work of Hippocrates which for many years was believed and backed by Religion. He developed onto Hippocrates work and Developed the "Theory of the Opposites" and fixed many of Hippocrates mistakes. He was believed for 1500 years

Developed ligatures to stop bleeding, he also was one of the first people to start developing false limbs and created an ointment instead of Cauterising

Vesalius stole bodies from public places to dissect and provide details on anatomy. He gave us specific details on the body and its functions, and wrote "The Fabric Of The Human Body", He proves many of Galen's findings wrong

Harvey
He is most noted for his work on discovering that the heart pumped blood, and that he proved it with back up of many people, another thing Galen was wrong about.

Jenner
Edward Jenner was the pioneer of the Vaccine, he discovered that people who contracted Cowpox did not contract the disease Smallpox, and went on to develop a vaccine for it in 1796. Smallpox now has been eradicated from the world

Nightingale
Nightingale, also known as 'The Lady with the Lamp' was an English nurse sent to the Crimean war, she worked on cleaning the hospitals and ensuring a sterile enviroment for helping the wounded, she later opened her own nursing school after the War

Mary Seacole
Mary Seacole did the work similar to Nightingale, except she was a war zone nurse, and she choose to go, and wasn't goverment sent to the war, unlike Nightingale aswell, she recieved little credit for her work she did in Crimea

Lister was the first person to discover the work of an anti-septic, he found that Carbolic Acid cleaned the sewage systems and found its effectiveness in surgical theatres

Fleming is responsible for the discovery of Penicillin, he found out this by accident when he left some bacteria on his workstation before he went on Holiday, when he came back he realised that on certain areas, bacteria wouldn't grow

They mass produced Penicillin during the war after realising the potential this drug had in saving the lives of the public

Probably the most modern people on here (Plus, one of them is actually still alive!) Watson & Crick discovered the double helix structure of DNA
