Voluntary Euthanasia
A person in pain asks a doctor to end his/her life painlessly

Involuntary Euthanasia
Ending someone's life painlessly when they are not able to ask for themselves (eg. in a coma) but a relative makes that request on their behalf

Passive Euthanasia
Medical assistance is taken away, eg. a life support machine is switched off, or medication is no longer given. This is legal in the UK

Active Euthanasia
Something is actively 'given' to the patient to speed up death, eg. a lethal injection. This is illegal in the UK

Experiments on animals used mainly to help find cures for many human medical conditions and sometimes used to test the safety of products for human use, eg. cosmetics
