It breaks down why we do certain things like watch tv, read books and gives them meanings. The bottom of the pyramid is physical needs whilst the top is more psychological things like creativity where we achieve moments like self-actualisation.

Physiological, Safety, Love, Self Esteem and Self-Actualisation.

How the producer wants the audience to view the text. The audience will understand especially if they are the same age and culture.

Where the audience rejects the text and creates their own meaning. This means a range of meaning could come from one text. This mainly happens when people are different ages and cultures.

In the Reception Theory what is Negotiated Reading
A mixture of Oppositional reading and preferred reading. The audience understand the producers point however they have their own meaning and understanding aswell. This can happen when someone the same age as you has different views.
