What is ventilation?
The movement of air over the gaseous exchange surface
1 of 14
What muscles control the thorax?
Intercoastal muscles+Diaphragm
2 of 14
What type of ventiiation happens in the lungs?Explain
Tidal which means air flows in and out by the same route
3 of 14
What is the rule of air flow?
Air flows from high to low pressure
4 of 14
Why can't the lungs ventilate? So how can they ventilate?
Because they're not muscular enough therefore they have the thorax that moves and changes shape
5 of 14
What is the ventilation rate?
It is the breathing rate- the no. of breaths taken in one minute
6 of 14
What is the tidal volumne?
The volumne of air breathed in or out of the lungs per breath
7 of 14
What is the vital capacity?
The maximum volumne of air that it breathed out/ forcibily expelled out from the lungs
8 of 14
Residual volumne?
The volumne of air remaining in your lungs at the end of maximal expiration
9 of 14
Explain the full process of Inspiration
EX intercoastal muscles contract+ IN intercoastal muscles relax+ ribs moves upwards and outwards+Diaphragm contracts and flattens-->increase volumne thorax >decrease lung pressure= air moves in bcos air pressure is greater
10 of 14
Explain the full process of Expiration
Inner intercoastal.m contract+ EX I.M relax+ ribs downwards and inwards+diaphragm relaxes goes upwsrds to a dome-->decrease in volumne of thorax-->pressure in lungs increase=air pushed out of lungs bcos air pressure outside is greater
11 of 14
What is the air movement along pressure gradient for inspiration?
Above-->

What is the air movenent along pressure gradient for expiration?
Below
13 of 14
Describe the equation of Pulmonary Ventilation
Pulmonary ventilation (min-1 dm3) = Ventilaion rate (min-1) x Tidal volume (dm3)
