What does f(x) mean?
f- the function takes an input (x) and makes an output
1 of 5
if f(x)=2x^2-1, find f(2)
f(2)=2(2)^2-1, =2x4-1, =8-1, =7
2 of 5
if f(x)=2x^2-1, find f(2x+1)
f(2x+1)=2(2x+1)^2-1, =2(4x^2+4x+1)-1, =8x^2+8x+2-1, =8x^2+8x+1
3 of 5
What does it mean by 'solve' a function?
we need to find the input(x) which gives you a certain output
4 of 5
If f(x)=2x+3, solve f(x)=10
2x+3=10, 2x=10-3, 2x=7, x=7/2, x=3.5
