Softwoods come from coniferous trees which are evergreen such as cedar, for and pine.

Broad-leaved deciduous trees such as ash, beech, birch, cherry, elm, oak.

A wood with visible large pores.

What are the properties of Ash?
Light creamy-brown colour, open grain, tough, flexible. Used for sports equipment, wooden ladders, tool handles

White to pinkish-brown in colour, close trained, hard & strong. Used to make furniture, toys & tool handles

What are the properties of Elm?
Light to medium brown in colour, interlocking grain, touch and durable. Used for indoor and outdoor furniture.

What are the properties of Mahogany?
Pink to reddish-brown colour, fairly strong, durable and some interlocking grain. Used for good quality furniture.
