What are the 5 different stages of mass spectrometry?
Vaporisation , Ionizsation , Acceleration , Deflection , Detection ( Very innocent assortment delightfully delicious)
1 of 5
What happens in Vapourisation , Ionizsation , Acceleration ?
Vapourisation - > Turned to gas by electric heater Ionizsation-> High energy electrons bombard gas atom knock off electron Accesleration -> By electric field
2 of 5
What happens in deflection & Detection
Magnectic field (lighter mass/charge deflected more) only particular m/z make it to detector for given mag field .. As ions hit the detector it causes an current to flow, bigger curent = more of that isotope
3 of 5
How do you work out Mr of isotope with mass spectrum?
If % then times MR by Percentage, add all together divide by 100 If Varied numbers of abundance times mr by abundance add all together then times by all added abundance
