Soil Creep
Slowest type of mass movement. Caused by raindrop impact. Wet periods causing soil particles to swell. Freeze thaw causing particles to expand
1 of 6
Landslide
Rapid movement of detached slabs of rock down a slide plane.
2 of 6
Rotational Slip
Common coastal landslips in weak rocks, e.g. sand & clays
3 of 6
Rockfall
Individual rock fragments fall off a cliff face, often due to freeze thaw weathering.
4 of 6
Mudflow
Saturated soil flows downhill, often triggered by heavy rain.
5 of 6
Soilifluction
Happens in areas where land is frozen for long periods of time and weber vegetation is sparse. When the topsoil thaws in the summer months, the additional water and lack of vegetation to hold the saturated soil together lead to a flowing active layer
