Marxist
the owners of the media control its content. they don't have everyday media items but employ editors and managers who support same view. few powerful corporations and individuals own the media they make their money through the capitalist system.

functionalists think the mass media is an agency of socialization and helps to integrate people by communicating the common values, norms and aspiration of society; in the sense it performs complementary functions to the family and education.

New media, people are more involved through new media e.g. internet is more diverse, people are able to use media more freely. media content is determined by audiences through supply and demand. diversity such as Facebook, twitter.
