What is mass media?
Mass media is a wide range of communication that reaches a vast scale of audiences worldwide. They can be split into two groups e.g Traditional and new media

What is Traditional media?
Traditional media is an older type of media that usually target the older generation e.g. Newspapers ( paper form ), books ( paper form ) Radio and cable TV.

What is new media?
New media is the opposite of traditional media where media targets the younger generations with new types of technology e.g Internet, smartphones, video games and DvD's

What is the broadcasting?
Broadcasting includes TV and radio. Some publicity funded some in private. Public broadcasting through the BBC is funded by a TV license fee. Private commercial advertising is funded through advertising too.

What is the idea of press?
The press includes newspapers and magazines. In Britain it is privately owned and are profited by making businesses. It is financed through advertising income and sales. They are in competition with others constantly.

What are regional papers?
They are paper that are made in a specific area.

What is a local paper?
It is made in a area that is close to where we live.

What are quality broadsheet newspapers?
They are more serious, detailed and has less pictures inside of the newspapers.

What are middle market newspapers?
They contain serious news as well as gossip within the paper.

What is a broadsheet?
It is a newspaper that is double the normal size of newspapers.

What is digitisation?
The process of using digital technology in everyday life e.g we can use mobile phones and watch TV for our own entertainment.

What is interactivity?
This is the process of interacting with technology in order to get people to enjoy and explore different things e.g X factor press the button.

What does convergence mean?
Convergence means coming together digitally with someone else e.g if you play a game that you can connect with online with people.

What is the meaning internet?
The large system of connected computers around the world that allows people to share information and communicate with each other regardless of where you are.

What is the digital divide?
It is the divide between people who benefit from using digital technology and people who do not use it. Young people mostly benefit from it.

What is the hypodermic syringe model theory?
The idea that the audience are passive receivers of images and messages displayed in the media. The "syringe" is full of media content and "injects" it into the audience directly.

What is moral panic?
The medias reaction to social groups or activities which are defined as threatening social values. As a result they create anxiety amongst the general public. Newspapers play a key role in creating the moral panic.

What is deviancy amplification?
Behaviour that breaks the norms of society being made bigger, larger due to mass media.
