-Where secretions can be cleared with less fatigue

Describe the percussion technique
-Hand is cupped and used to percuss chest wall in rhythmical manner =flexing/ extending wrist
-One handed/ two handed/ 2-3 fingers
-Performed over towel

Describe the mechanism of action
-Mechanism of vibration thought to loosen secretions from walls of airways
-Creates energy waves > transmitted to larger airways > increase in intra thoracic pressure = mobilise secretions

Describe adverse effects of the treatment
-Increase hypoxemia
-May induce bronchospasm due to breathe holding

-Coarse vibratory action performed over chest wall during expiration
-Flat hand on chest wall (app. lung segment)
-Arm and shoulder stiffened + light pressure applied to create shaking
-Powerful

-Fine movement

-Loss of skin integrity > burns, surgery
-Surgical Emphysema
