Managers in organisations have to make decisions about their area in organisations and to make sure these decisions are good, they need to be based on information.

The purpose of MIS is to supply managers with information.
MIS is designed to take internal and external data and turn it into information.

This information is then communicated to managers in suitable format e.g. report that can be understood by managers of different levels.
MIS needs to be in an appropriate form to enable managers at different levels make effective decisions for planning, directing, controlling activities for which they are responsible.
