What does a salt contain?
A metal part and a non-metal part.
1 of 8
An acid + a metal gives ...
A salt and hydrogen.
2 of 8
What is the process of reacting a metal and an acid?
React the metal and acid together. Add additional metal to check it has completely reacted. Filter the solution. Then evaporate the water away.
3 of 8
A metal oxide (insoluble base) + acid gives ...
A salt and water.
4 of 8
How to react an acid with a metal oxide.
Stir in the metal oxide slowly to warm acid. Add more metal oxide until a precipitate forms. Filter the excess. Evaporate the water away to get a crystallised salt.
5 of 8
An acid + an alkali gives ...
A salt and water.
6 of 8
How to react an acid with an alkali.
React them together. Check if it has fully reacted by adding pH indicator. Evaporate to get rid of the water.
7 of 8
How to make fertiliser.
Dissolve ammonia gas in water to produce ammonium hydroxide. React the ammonium hydroxide with nitric acid to form ammonium nitrate (fertiliser) and water.
