MAIN RESEARCH METHODS

?
Lab experiments
Low ecological validity- many research studies are done in a lab setting which are not realistic as they cannot tell us how people would react in the real world. It is very scientific as we have the ability to control the variables
1 of 5
Field experiments
In a natural situation which means there is a higher amount of ecological validity but less control over variables
2 of 5
Natural experiments
observations of a naturally occuring situation. The experimenter has little control of the variables and participants cannot be assigned to conditions. It has a high ecological validity, situations not massively reliable as variable can affect result
3 of 5
Brain imaging
carried out during a cognitive task such as MRI scans showing blood flow to different areas of the brains in different memory tasks
