Lysistrata
An Athenian woman who is sick of war so she takes control of the women in Athens and Sparta to devise a plan to stop war. She is the least feminine out of all the women and she proposes that they ban the men from having sex with them to stop war.

Calonice
Lysistrata's next door neighbor who is the first to show up at the meeting. She is typically feminine and delighted that the plan involved wearing garments and negligees but not so delighted that she has to give up sex.

Myrrhine
A strong Athenian woman, second only to Lysistrata herself. She is able to carry through the sex ban and seduce her husband, Cinesias, when he is home from war on a short break. However at the last minute she refuses to have sex with him.

Lampito
Lampito represents the women of Sparta, and so she is presented quite differently to the Athenian women in terms of body and accent. She draws the Spartan women into Lysistrata's plan of the sex ban.

Ismenia
A woman from Boeotia, a region of Greece. People from Boeotia were stereotypically stupid and lacking intelligence to Athenian people. She is clean, pretty and possibly mute.

Corinthian Girl
She accompanies Ismenia and Lampito to Lysistrata's meeting and is known for her vast behind.

Policewoman
She offers her shield for the women to make a sacrifice on it.

Chorus of Old Men
Made up of 12 stereotypical 'old men' who stroll around Athens trying but failing to keep the women in order. They form a strong comedic aspect within the play as they present some very misogynistic ideas.

Koryphaios
The leader of the chorus of old men. He is known to be stubborn and very bad tempered as he too is extremely misogynistic.

Chorus of Old Women
They seize and protect the Acropolis from the chorus of old men. Although frail, they fight to the last with the men but they finally win victory. Led by Stratyllis.

Stratyllis
Leader of the chorus of old women who is extremely successful in the seizure of the Acropolis and outwits the men in every possible way.

Magistrate Pobouloi
One of 10 men in Athens who magistrate. He is supposed to be the head of security and law in Athens but is completely overwhelmed by the women. Ends up like a distressed woman himself. Too slow to understand Lysistrata's logic's about future/peace.

4 Scythian Policemen
Policemen humiliated again and again by the women. The women, brandishing lamps, chamber pots and other various household utensils, scare the policemen away.

Cinesias
Myrrhine's husband, and the victim of the women enforcing their sex strike. A needy and desperate character as he comes to the Acropolis ready for his wife, fully inflamed by frustrated desire.

Reconciliation
Lysistrata's handmaid. A naked beauty, as Lysistrata displays her and uses her as a final plea for peace between Athens and Sparta. Aroused and uncomfortable, the men quickly discuss the terms of a truce, while staring at Reconciliation's body.
