Ralph
Ralph is the Chief and uses the Conch to control the meetings.He has the responsibility of looking after the other survivors.

Jack is the leader of the choirboys, who become his hunters. He is a rival to Ralph and eventually declares himself as the chief.

Piggy
Piggy is overweight and does not like manual labour. Unlike Ralph, Jack and the Choirboys he is working class. But he is probably the most intelligent boy on the island.

Simon starts as one of Jack's choirboys but he often faints and is always being called strange. He is the only one on the island who knows the truth about the beast.
