what is discriminatory practise
it involves treating someone unfairly compared to others like excluding them from activities

what are the basis of discrimination and how many are they
it develops from uninformed attitude and beliefs that cause unfair treatment towards some people. discrimination can happen on the basis of the persons race, culture, age, disability, social class, gender,sexual oriential and religion.

what is race
it refers to a group of people considered to have disstinctive characteristics based on their skin colour. E.G. people would be asked to classify themselves into ethinical groups the data is gathered to moniter effectiveness of equal opportunities.

what is culture
a group of people in society who share the same customs,landuage, dress, beliefand values.

what is disability
a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term negative effect on the persons ability to do normal daily activity discrimination based on disability is called disabilism.

what is social class
definined through economical or educational status to group people into hierarchical social categories. because of people`s social class people make unfavourable view and judgement.

what is age
despite being an ageing society discrimination does happen aganist age as, ther are still negaative percetion about older people being frail or confused. discrimination based on age is ageism.

what is gender
refers to if someone is male, transgender or female. discrimination based on gender is sexism.

what is sexual orientation
discrimination due to someone`s sexuality if they are bisexual, gay or lesbian is known as homophobia.

what is religion
it is a system of beliefs and values, they are very important to others and influences how they live.religious discrimination involves a persons religious needs not being met.

what is discrimination
direct treating someone unfairly based on their difference E.G rejection of job- sex discrimination .indirect discrimination is when a policy, rule or practise has a detrimental effect on someone. E.G clean shaving- aganist peoples belief.

what are the different types of abuse
physical,verbal, psycological, sexual, neglect abuse.

what is physical abuse
this is when someone causes physical pain or threatens to hurt an individual. this could cause physical injuries such as bruisingor broken bones

what is verbal abuse
name calling, inslults or swearing to humiliate or reduce someones dignity. done by usinng foul language or a career raising their voice at a resident

what is psycological abuse
threats and constant critism are examples of psycological abuse. the aim is to undermine and control the person being abused.

what is sexual abuse
unwanted sexual contact such as touching brests, genitals or buttockswhen the victim is dressed or undressed.

what is neglect
this is when a career fails tocare for someone properly. when they can`t provide basic need like warmth, food and clothes/shelter.

prejuidce, stereotype, labelling and bullying

what is prejuidce
when someone has a negative attitude aganist an individual or a group of people mainly based on ill-informed opinion like racial prejuidce.

what is stereotyping
making judgement about individuals or a group of people based on prejuidces. making unfair judgement on people with some characteristics are the same.

what is labelling
identifying people negatively as part of a particular group assuming that they are all the same. eg all old people are vulnerable and need protection.

what is bullying
a range of negative behaviours that intimidate or harm behaviours. it is humiliating, insultingor harrasing others by criticising them, making inapporopriate comments and nicknames.

it affects people who are in the care enviroment. individuals who require care and support, family/friends and practioners

what are the impacts on individuals
disempowerment, low self esteem/confidence and poor health and wellbeing.

what is disempowerment
feeling a lack of control in their life mainly happens in a residential care home, as residents are depeendent on careers so thereofore are abused.

what is low self esteem/confidence
it is controlloed by discrimination this is where a person feels worthless.

how does discrimination cause poor health and wellbeing
because they may become withdrawn and isolate themself fromothers to avoid situations health problems like anxiety and high blood pressure are developed. if the person is already ill then there condition can deteriorate and recovery might be delayed.
