What is a lining?
A separate layer of fabric used.

What are the positives of lining a garment?
More comfortable, prevents creasing, insulating. Drapes better. Protects outer layer, improves quality, covers seams, allows for inside pockets, strength.

What is an underlining?
Stitched to the inside of a garment. Individual pieces cut to same size + shape of outer so outer and underlining treated as one.

Why may a fabric be underlined?
As a backing for sheer or lace fabric. As a support or extra layer of warmth. To add strength to a fabric.

What is an interlining?
A separate layer of soft fabric inbetween the outer fabric and lining fabric. Cannot be seen. Must be lined.

To add warmth, shape or structure.
