What is Limestone?
Is a sedimentary rock that consists of mainly calcium carbonate. It is cheap, easy to obtain and has many uses.
1 of 6
What can Limestone be used for after being quarried?
Limestone can be quarried and cut into blocks to build walls of house, in regions where limestone is plentiful.
2 of 6
What happens when Calcium Carbonate is heated?
When Calcium Carbonate is heated it decomposes to make Calcium Oxide and Carbon dioxide.
3 of 6
What is this reaction called?
Thermal Decomposition.
4 of 6
Other metal carbonates undergo thermal decomposition on heating. What do they produce.
They also produce a meatl oxide and carbon dioxide. For example Magnesium Carbonate is heated to produce magnesium oxide and carbon dioxide.
5 of 6
Can Group 1 metal carbonates undergo thermal decomposition?
Yes, but some group 1 metals require higher temperatures than a bunsen burner can provide in order to undergo thermal decomposition.
