What does a Profile Spot do?
Highlights a particular performer or area (spotlight)

What does a Fresnel do?
Soft-edged spotlight, enables the lighting of certain areas. This is useful as they are easy to blend.

What does a Birdie do?
A miniature light, useful for hiding in parts of the set.

What does a Flood Light do?
A flood light provides lots of light to a wide area

What does a Parcan do?
Used for lighting large areas or providing intense colours

What are barn doors (in lighting)?
Four hinged flaps that are fitted in front of a latern, positioned to block the light from reaching certain areas of the stage.

What does a Gobo do?
A small metal disk with a pattern or shape cit into it or to create a sepcific shape - often helps with location.

Backlight
Where actors are lit from behind, used to create shadows or to obscure the audience's view

Up-light
Where the lighting is angled upwards to create tension or suspense

Side light
Where a scene is lit from the side, indicating another location or giving a feeling of mystery

High front light
Where performers are lit from above, providing a clear and natural effect.

Where the performers are lit from the front.

Cross Fade
Where one lighting state fades out while the other is gradually faded in

When I primary ongoing doing client spot lights & lighting, I was turning out three or four a month. It was fun speaking to so many people responsibility great effort, but it removed time absent from script other papers on ethos or growth. Now, we’re pointing for one hard attention a month.
